It is very difficult to make laws to curb the misuse of social media but by creating awareness and imbibing moral values among different sphere of society can check its over dependence”. Additional Solicitor General of India and Ex-MP Satya Pal Jain expressed these views during a seminar on ‘social media : concept and challenges’ organized by Chandigarh Chapter of Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) at Press club Chandigarh today. He said change of technology and its advancements would keep on going for ever and need is to take up the positive side of such technologies. He added that inappropriate use of social media is harmful for children which should be brought to light by the parents and teachers. On the occasion former IAS officer Vivek Atray delivering his findings advised to minimize the excessive use of social media, reduce its over dependence, try to cut short your time on this media and enhance the activity of personal interaction with your friends and families. “Now a days social media is thought influencer which can easily hamper your views and change the mindset and perception of the society”, he opined. Atrey further said the thought leadership is emanating from mobiles and people took posts on facebook very seriously. Muncipal Corporation Chandigarh Mayor Davesh Moudgil described the unethical use of social media which is making serious dent in human relationships and moral values which are being degraded with its overuse. Presenting welcome address in seminar PRSI Chandigarh Chapter chairman Harjeet Singh Grewal said uninterrupted, unreliable and unverified delivery of messages on social media creating ripples in the society and influencing the mindset of common people which should be checked through rules or legislations. “Anti-social and anti-national elements are misusing such advanced IT applications for their illegal activities and influencing younger generation to indulge in unlawful and immoral activities,” he opined.
